Tai Chi is often recognized by its slow, flowing movements, but beneath the movement lies a deeper practice: learning to listen to the body, quiet the mind, and become more aware of how energy, intention, and attention shape the way we move and experience ourselves. We will approach Tai Chi not simply as a movement practice, but as an exploration of the relationship between body and mind. Through standing, breathing, weight shifting, fundamental Tai Chi movements, and partner exercises, participants will explore relaxation without collapse, stillness within movement, balance and grounding, and the subtle ways in which intention can organize the entire body. Rather than asking, “How does my movement look?” we will gradually learn to ask, “What do I actually feel?” As awareness deepens, the body itself becomes a source of information. We begin to notice unnecessary tension, shifts in balance, internal sensations, and our instinctive responses to another person’s presence and energy. No previous Tai Chi or martial arts experience is necessary. Each session will build progressively while leaving space for curiosity, personal discovery, and individual experience. While the seven sessions are designed to build progressively, each session also stands on its own, so participants are welcome to join at any point in the series and will be able to follow the class without having attended previous sessions. <p data-pm-slice="1 1 About Raymond Lee Raymond Lee (Tai Chi Ray) is a New York City–based Tai Chi instructor and founder of Manhattan Tai Chi. He began practicing martial arts at age seven and grew up in a family with a five-generation tradition in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ray approaches Tai Chi not simply as a martial art or form of exercise, but as an ongoing exploration of the relationship between body and mind.
