Zoom Workshop Ron Daniels: The Soliloquy 5 Week Workshop Dates & Times Wednesday, November 9, 2022 – 3:00pm-6:00pm ET Wednesday, November 16, 2022– 3:00pm-6:00pm ET – Break for Thanksgiving, No Session – Wednesday, November 30, 2022 – (Cancelled) Wednesday, December 7, 2022– 3:00pm-6:00pm ET Wednesday, December 14, 2022– 3:00pm-6:00pm ET Wednesday, December 21, 2022– 3:00pm-6:00pm ET (Added) This workshop will take place on Zoom. All company members are invited to observe. About the Workshop Acclaimed international director, teacher, and Honorary Associate Director of the RSC, Ron Daniels, returns to The Actors Center for a series of five Wednesday afternoons devoted to Shakespeare's soliloquies. In a collaborative workshop format, each taking turns with the text, we’ll explore moments where both the character and the actor find themselves in a unique situation: alone on stage with nobody but the audience. These are moments when the narrative of the play is suspended and a character confides his or her innermost thoughts with the audience and simply tells the truth, without equivocation. But who is “the audience”? And is the identity of the audience always the same or does it change for different characters and under different circumstances? And above all, if the character is truly engaging with the audience, should we not rather think of these moments as imaginary dialogues between actor and audience instead of as lonely soliloquies? Far from the rush and tumble of the rehearsal room floor and the need to quickly find results, Ron will gently guide participants through unraveling a series of soliloquies, not from an academic, but from an actor’s point of view, inviting greater awareness of moments of possibility and discovery, enhancing the richness of text, and in service of the actor's ability to inhabit Shakespeare's language and make it truly your own. About Ron Daniels Ron Daniels is an Honorary Associate Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, a distinction he received after fifteen years directing many RSC productions and serving as Artistic Director of RSC’s The Other Place Theatre. His work with RSC has included two productions of Hamlet (one with Roger Rees and one with Mark Rylance), The Tempest (with Derek Jacobi and Mark Rylance), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Julius Caesar, Timon of Athens, Pericles, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado about Nothing, Richard II and Henry V along with plays by Stephen Poliakoff, David Rudkin, David Edgar and Naomi Wallace, including Anthony Burgess' A...

Screenplays and Television scripts are blueprints for building visual stories. Do you often find yourself reading a film or tv scene and thinking “there’s not much here” or, on set, asking yourself “why are they shooting it that way?” Our ability to quickly and effectively analyze a scene prior to making specific acting choices ensures we are telling the same story as our collaborators. Damian will guide participants in how to more readily identify genre, story, tone, environment, and emotional stakes of a scene. He will share four distinct scenes from a variety of filmed material. • Film Screening: The Courtroom

Film Screening The Courtroom with Kristin Villanueva and Linda Powell Directed by Lee Sunday Evans Screenplay by Arian Moayed Dates & Times Monday, April 24, 2023 – 7:00pm Macauley Honors College, 35 West 67th St The screening of the film will be followed by a discussion with Kristin Villanueva and Linda Powell. Wine and beverages will be provided. About the Event The Actors Center hosts a film screening and discussion of The Courtroom with company members Kristin Villanueva and Linda Powell on Monday, April 24th at 7:00pm at Macaulay Honors College. The 2022 film from director Lee Sunday Evans and screenwriter Arian Moayed debuted last year at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film tells the story of Elizabeth Keathley (Kristin Villanueva), who came to the United States to begin a hopeful chapter of her life, and start a family with her new husband. Having navigated the labyrinth of U.S. immigration law and started the process of applying for citizenship, Elizabeth set out to do everything right, following all the rules—but one mistake on one piece of paper landed her in a nightmare: deportation proceedings. An emotionally wrenching story of one woman and her lawyer (Linda Powell) fighting to make sure that the country she put all her trust and faith in does not fail her, The Courtroom uses only the verbatim text of the real court transcripts of her case as the dialogue for the film. Originally created by Waterwell as a critically-acclaimed play that premiered Off-Broadway in 2019, The Courtroom offers audiences a rare front-row seat to see the inner workings of our country's immigration court system. The complete cast of the film includes Marsha Stephanie Blake, Michael Braun, Kathleen Chalfant, Hanna Cheek, Michael Chernus, Michael Bryan French, Mick Hilgers, and BD Wong. “The sneaky thing about this re-enactment is that in watching it, we citizens are on trial, too. What kind of a nation are we?” —  The New York Times RSVP Kristin Villanueva most recently performed in Waterwell’s The Courtroom directed by Lee Sunday Evans. Her film credits include The Courtroom, Viper Club, Someone Will Assist You Shortly. TV credits include Bonding, Search Party, That Damn Michael Che, Younger, Elementary, Forever, and Gossip Girl. She frequently collaborates with directors Mike Donahue and Mary Zimmerman.
