About the Workshop Teacher, director, performer, and writer Erica Fae returns to The Actors Center for a workshop focusing on emotional and physical integration. Over six weeks, participants will investigate the body as a vehicle for deep transformation, a container of emotional experience, and an elegant tool in articulation. Erica will begin with physical training practices based on the early work of Jerzy Grotowski to awaken and deepen an already-innate connection to mind, heart, and body. Erica will guide participants in expanding their emotional life through full-body training, working with image as a source and tool, and unpacking innate patterns or habits in the body. We will parse out experience, observations, and judgements within the work, and work with how the body can be a roadmap towards specific acting choices. About Erica Fae Writer, director, performer, and teacher Erica Fae brings radical stories from history to stage and screen. Her first feature film To Keep the Light won the Fipresci Prize, among other festival awards, and is currently on Amazon Prime. Her original plays include A Girl Joan, Saved Again and by Him, and Take What Is Yours with Jill A. Samuels. Erica currently teaches Physical Acting at Yale's David Geffen School of Drama. She first trained in Grotowski-based work at age 15 and studied at NYU’s Experimental Theatre Wing where she later taught. She has also taught at The New School for Drama, Columbia’s M.F.A. Film Program, The Actors Center, and in private workshops and retreats. As actor, she’s been on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Netflix's Partner Track, Random Acts of Flyness and Doll & Em, and in feature films First Reformed, Synecdoche New York, The Savages, Little Children, Please Give. She’s also worked with, among others, Martha Clarke, Rachel Dickstein/Ripe Time, and Ping Chong; and has performed at The New Victory, The Kennedy Center, American Repertory Theater, American Conservatory Theater, the Walker Arts Center, Performing Arts Chicago, the McCarter Theatre and the Power...

About the Workshop Interdisciplinary artist and teacher Fabio Tavares returns to The Actors Center for four sessions devoted to exploring the principles of the Alexander Technique in action. The technique has been described as a psycho-physical re-education system, or simply a body mind system that looks to clarify a certain relationship between the head, the neck, and the body. When the neck is free, the head will tend to go "forward and up" and when the head goes forward and up the body will tend to "lengthen and widen". But how exactly do we do that? It turns out we need a process—one that feels safe, simple, and fun enough so that it doesn't become yet another thing on our to-do list. A process through which we can play, be curious, and kind to ourselves. Over four sessions, Fabio will guide participants through exercises that help us clarify this process for ourselves. In the latter part of each session, participants are invited to bring in sides or text to work from, exploring one-on-one adjustments in the work. Sessions run Fridays from 10am-1pm. About Fabio Tavares Fabio Tavares is a Brazilian artist who’s been obsessed with the human body in action from a very young age. He started off as a competitive gymnast before running away to join the circus at the age of 15 where he got his first professional job as an acrobat. Fabio moved to New York in 1999 where he’s been dancing, teaching and making art since. He has collaborated and performed with Yvonne Meyer, chameckilerner, Miguel Gutierrez, Fisherspooner, Noemie Lafrance, Luis Lara Malvacías, Jeniffer Monson, Circus Amok, John Heginbotham, Laurie Anderson,The Dazzle Dancers, The Daisy Spurs, Stanley Love, Anna Kohler, Anne Bogart and the acclaimed SITI Company. He has also danced with Elizabeth Streb and her STREB Extreme-Action company for 14 years, and was the company's Associate Artistic Director for a decade. About the Workshop Actor-creator, director, and Yale faculty member Justine Williams returns to The Actors Center for a two-week workshop devoted to play and clown. What if acting were just play? What if the key to your creative brilliance was a matter of reconnecting with your playful impulses, rediscovering the joy of playing pretend, and sharing that joy generously and skillfully with, for, and through an audience? Across four sessions, we'll work through exercises drawn from play, improvisation, and clown to unleash your own unique brilliance—discovering what is distinctively playful (and funny) about you on stage. Together, we’ll explore how an actor’s connection to play and pleasure can enliven a character, illuminate a text, or bring an entire theatrical world to life. Sessions run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am-2:00pm About Justine Williams Justine is a performer and filmmaker, creative convener, teacher, and coach whose work centers on recovery and re-discovery of authentic voice and presence, the value of play and pleasure as creative and social tools, and the power of individual/collective creativity to imagine and bring about other possible selves, stories, and worlds. Justine’s work is informed by 15+ years as a faculty member and advisor at the Yale School of Drama, guiding learning, collaboration, and storytelling across creative disciplines; and, from over 25+ years of experience collaborating with arts and culture and social impact organizations around the globe. As a filmmaker, Justine’s work has screened at Maryland Film Festival, Woodstock Film Festival, New Directors | New Films, and Rotterdam Film Festival, and original work has been supported/presented by The Public Theater, Ars Nova, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Women in Film & Television, Queer|Art, Orchard Project, UNM’s Arts and Media Lab, Lighthouse Film Festival, Abrons Arts, and Dixon Place. About the Workshop Teacher, director, performer, and writer Erica Fae returns to The Actors Center for a workshop focusing on emotional and physical integration. Over six weeks, participants will investigate the body as a vehicle for deep transformation, a container of emotional experience, and an elegant tool in articulation. Erica will begin with physical training practices based on the early work of Jerzy Grotowski to awaken and deepen an already-innate connection to mind, heart, and body. Erica will guide participants in expanding their emotional life through full-body training, working with image as a source and tool, and unpacking innate patterns or habits in the body. We will parse out experience, observations, and judgements within the work, and work with how the body can be a roadmap towards specific acting choices. About Erica Fae Writer, director, performer, and teacher Erica Fae brings radical stories from history to stage and screen. Her first feature film To Keep the Light won the Fipresci Prize, among other festival awards, and is currently on Amazon Prime. Her original plays include A Girl Joan, Saved Again and by Him, and Take What Is Yours with Jill A. Samuels. Erica currently teaches Physical Acting at Yale's David Geffen School of Drama. She first trained in Grotowski-based work at age 15 and studied at NYU’s Experimental Theatre Wing where she later taught. She has also taught at The New School for Drama, Columbia’s M.F.A. Film Program, The Actors Center, and in private workshops and retreats. About the Workshop Teacher, director, performer, and writer Erica Fae returns to The Actors Center for a workshop focusing on emotional and physical integration. Over six weeks, participants will investigate the body as a vehicle for deep transformation, a container of emotional experience, and an elegant tool in articulation. Erica will begin with physical training practices based on the early work of Jerzy Grotowski to awaken and deepen an already-innate connection to mind, heart, and body. Erica will guide participants in expanding their emotional life through full-body training, working with image as a source and tool, and unpacking innate patterns or habits in the body. We will parse out experience, observations, and judgements within the work, and work with how the body can be a roadmap towards specific acting choices. About Erica Fae Writer, director, performer, and teacher Erica Fae brings radical stories from history to stage and screen. Her first feature film To Keep the Light won the Fipresci Prize, among other festival awards, and is currently on Amazon Prime. Her original plays include A Girl Joan, Saved Again and by Him, and Take What Is Yours with Jill A. Samuels. Erica currently teaches Physical Acting at Yale's David Geffen School of Drama. She first trained in Grotowski-based work at age 15 and studied at NYU’s Experimental Theatre Wing where she later taught. She has also taught at The New School for Drama, Columbia’s M.F.A. Film Program, The Actors Center, and in private workshops and retreats. Alongside physical practice, the workshop invites reflection on deeper questions of why we create, how the artist impacts others on a human level, and the cultural traditions that have long used stilts as a tool for performance and community. His role as a choreographer and movement designer has been showcased in productions of Henry VI (National Asian American Theatre Company), The Cherry Orchard (Classic Stage Company by Andrei Belgrader), and Marisol (Trinity Rep), among others. He is the winner of the 2023 Callaway award for Choreography in The Half God of Rainfall at New York Theatre Workshop. He has also directed a physical approach to Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins at PlayMakers Repertory Company, and his contributions to the world of new productions extend to writing and performing in Sesar (commissioned by the Ma-Yi Theater Company) and writing and directing That Beautiful Laugh (La MaMa’s 50th year anniversary). He is a founding member of the Campfire Project, where he leads an innovative approach to arts therapy through the arts of stilt walking in order to support the resilience and wellbeing of refugees and asylum seekers worldwide. About the Workshop Founder of the Lucid Body, an Intimacy Coordinator, and Head of Movement at NYU Grad Acting, Fay Simpson, returns to The Actors Center for a five week workshop focusing on building high stakes scenes respectfully and deeply utilizing her physical approach. The first two weeks will delve into advanced tools for active listening and somatic sensitivity needed when approaching scenes involving close relationships. Over the subsequent three weeks, a scene partner and scene will be chosen and explored using exercises to help build physical history, affection, and the bile that may occur as an aftermath. Whether you are new to Lucid Body or not, this workshop will offer tools for embodying the conflicting layers present inside a character, as well as between characters, on a blood and bone level. About Fay Simpson Fay Simpson is the Founder of the Lucid Body, a psycho-physical process of introspection, exertion, and mental challenge that empowers actors and dancers to express human complexity and passion with safety and skill. She is Head of Movement at NYU’s Graduate Acting Program, and has been the Artistic Director and co-founder of Impact Theatre since its creation in 1990 (D-Train, Degas’ Little Dancer, Marital Bliss of Francis and Maxine, Kurt’s Wife: A Story of Lotte Lenya, Grey Gone, and most recently, SCOTTY). She is an IPA-certified Intimacy Coordinator and has been a physical acting director and somatic acting coach for more than twenty years. Fay has also taught at The Yale School of Drama, the New School’s Eugene Lang, Michael Howard Studios, The Studio/NY, Marymount Manhattan College, and The Actors Center. The work you are doing is difficult, impossible, essential.” — Konstantin Stanislavski Actor, teacher, and company member, Ken Barnett, will return to The Actors Center for a 3-day workshop sharing the tools of Dreamwork, while focusing on using unconscious material to develop a character. Each participant is asked to choose a role to prepare and also bring in a dream to explore. The process of using Dreamwork to create a role is a beautiful, mysterious, and profoundly inspiring methodology. By engaging with fresh material from the unconscious as delivered by a dream, we find the fertile intersection between our own selves and the character. We then discover what is deeply personal about the script and how urgent it is for us to inhabit this story and character. As is true with each dream, each role becomes a new opportunity to learn, grow, and move towards wholeness: a call from one’s destiny. Ken has offered Dreamwork to the company before, but this is the first time we will focus on character work. Working physically, Ken will guide participants in asking the thinking mind to soften in order to invite the truth held in the body to express freely. About the Workshop Interdisciplinary artist, director, and educator, Orlando Pabotoy, returns to The Actors Center for a 3-week workshop introducing the art of stilt walking. With Orlando's guidance, participants will develop their trust, confidence, and physical awareness while embracing vulnerability and rediscovering their childlike sense of play. Stilt work opens the body to new possibilities of movement, scale, and presence, sparking fresh approaches to character, storytelling, and artistic inquiry. Alongside physical practice, the workshop invites reflection on deeper questions of why we create, how the artist impacts others on a human level, and the cultural traditions that have long used stilts as a tool for performance and community. About the Workshop Founder of the Lucid Body, an Intimacy Coordinator, and Head of Movement at NYU Grad Acting, Fay Simpson, returns to The Actors Center for a five week workshop focusing on building high stakes scenes respectfully and deeply utilizing her physical approach. The first two weeks will delve into advanced tools for active listening and somatic sensitivity needed when approaching scenes involving close relationships. Over the subsequent three weeks, a scene partner and scene will be chosen and explored using exercises to help build physical history, affection, and the bile that may occur as an aftermath. Whether you are new to Lucid Body or not, this workshop will offer tools for embodying the conflicting layers present inside a character, as well as between characters, on a blood and bone level. About Fay Simpson Fay Simpson is the Founder of the Lucid Body, a psycho-physical process of introspection, exertion, and mental challenge that empowers actors and dancers to express human complexity and passion with safety and skill. She is Head of Movement at NYU’s Graduate Acting Program, and has been the Artistic Director and co-founder of Impact Theatre since its creation in 1990 (D-Train, Degas’ Little Dancer, Marital Bliss of Francis and Maxine, Kurt’s Wife: A Story of Lotte Lenya, Grey Gone, and most recently, SCOTTY). She is an IPA-certified Intimacy Coordinator and has been a physical acting director and somatic acting coach for more than twenty years. Fay has also taught at The Yale School of Drama, the New School’s Eugene Lang, Michael Howard Studios, The Studio/NY, Marymount Manhattan College, and The Actors Center. Fay was awarded a Fox Foundation Fellowship to intern with Mark Rylance at the Globe Theater in London in 2000.
