Rashaad Ernesto Green, Reading and Discussion

Filmmaker, writer, and actor Rashaad Ernesto Green joins the The Actors Center in March 2023 for a reading of the screenplay ’68 followed by a discussion of the film development process.

Filmmaker, writer, actor, and company member, Rashaad Ernesto Green, will be joined by members of the company in March for a reading of the screenplay, ’68, followed by a discussion of the film development process.

’68 tells the story of Tommie Smith and John Carlos from their first meeting on the track team at San Jose State to the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. As the two received medals for the 200 meter race (Smith the gold and Carlos the bronze), they raised their fists in salute and silent protest during the American national anthem. The event caused widespread controversy at the time, and is still regarded as one of the most political moments in the history of the Olympics.

His feature film directorial debut Gun Hill Road premiered at Sundance in 2011.  Premature, a film he co-wrote with lead actress Zora Howard, premiered at Sundance in 2019 and he subsequently received the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Someone to Watch Award, which recognizes a talented filmmaker of singular vision.
