Company member Bob Ari is in Rock and Roll Man at New World Stages. Co-written by Gary Kupper, Larry Marshak, and Rose Caiola, and directed by Randal Myler, Rock and Roll Man is an original musical about a musical original—Alan Freed was a Cleveland DJ who heard the future and knew he had to let it sing. He named the genre “Rock & Roll,” bringing music to the masses and integrating artists and audiences on the airwaves and in concerts for the first time in history.

Company members Kevin Kilner and Barzin Akhavan are in the podcast, The Tempest, with Play On Shakespeare. Translated into modern English verse by Kenneth Cavander and directed by Andy Wolk, this fantastical story follows the magician Prospero, who wreaks revenge on his sister Antonia, and his daughter Miranda who falls in love with an unexpected visitor. The cast includes Jay O. Sanders, Kim Wuan, Kuhoo Verma, Gregg Mozgala, and Maryann Plunkett. Now streaming on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Company member Armando Riesco is in Deep Blue Sound at Clubbed Thumb Summerworks. On a small island, the locals confront change. Ella’s making secret plans, John befriends a drifter, and no one can find the whales. Written by Abe Koogler, directed by Arin Arbus the production runs June 5 through June 15 at the Wild Project.

Company member Christian Coulson is in the short film Burrow at the Tribeca Film Festival. Written and directed by Leaf Lieber, an ex-war soldier finds unexpected comfort with the arrival of a weary traveler, forcing him to reckon with his long avoided sexuality. Playing in select theaters June 10, 12, and 17, and streaming with Tribeca Online June 19-July 2.

Company members Stephanie Kurtzuba and Jess Gabor are in The Machine, now in theaters. Bert Kreischer rose to fame as a stand-up comedian known as The Machine, and recounts his true experience with Russian mobsters. Now, 23 years later, that trip has come back to haunt him as he and his estranged father are kidnapped back to Russia by the mob. Together, Bert and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self, all while attempting to find common ground in their often fraught relationship. Based on the comedy of Bert Kreischer and directed by Peter Atencio, the film’s cast also includes Mark Hamill, Jimmy Tatro and Iva Babić. Watch the trailer here.

Dawn-Elin Fraser, voice, speech, and dialect coach, and NYU faculty member, and Finn Caldwell, Olivier Award-winning puppet designer and director of puppetry and movement, will join The Actors Center’s Resident Company this month for a series of artist development workshops focused on self-calibration and puppetry.

Company members Leland Fowler and Julian Elijah Martinez are in This Land Was Made at the Vineyard Theatre. History and imagination collide with vibrant humor and echo into our present moment in this stirring new play from Tori Sampson and directed by Taylor Reynolds. Oakland in 1967 is a powder keg of social activism ready to boil over into radical action. For the patrons of Miss Trish’s bar, it’s all just talking points—until the explosive and seductive force of the revolution walks through the door. Now onstage through June 25.

Company member Mia Dillon is in On Golden Pond at Ivoryton Playhouse. Written by Ernest Thompson and directed by Brian Feehan, On Golden Pond is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who return to their summer home. They are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé, who leave for Europe and leave his teenage son behind for a summer of lessons learned and bonds strengthened. A heartwarming and hilarious show about generations of a family learning to communicate and to care. The production also features James Naughton and runs through June 11 in Ivoryton, Connecticut.

Company member Purva Bedi plays Friar Laurence in Romeo & Juliet at NAATCO, in partnership with Two River Theater. Co-directed by Hansol Jung and Dustin Wills, the classic tale of star-crossed love is infused with contemporary vitality by playwright Hansol Jung. Seen in 2020 as part of Two River Theater’s Two River Rising online reading series, this new take on Shakespeare’s ode to young love was originally commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Play On! project. Now onstage at Lynn F. Angelson Theater through June 3.
