Company member Kelly AuCoin appears inย Unworthy, a new short film from writer/director Adam R. Perlman. Kelly plays Warren Frye, who thirty years ago committed a crime that changed his life and millions of others: He shot the President of the United States. Now he’s been released from a mental hospital into the care of his 80-year-old mother. They say he’s better. He hopes he is. But when he’s confronted by the same pressures that once led him to do the unthinkable, we hope for redemption, brace for tragedy, and live in the space between. The Conch Shell International Film Festival, founded and directed by company member Magaly Colimon-Christopher, returns for its second year, August 26-28, 2022. The 3-day online festival showcases the creative voices of indie and student film directors and writers of the Caribbean Diaspora and the Caribbean whose work inspires social change. Company member Mia Dillon plays Vera in a new production ofย 4000 Miles, the Pulitzer Prize finalist and Obie Award-winning play from Amy Herzog, now running at the Westport Country Playhouse. After completing a cross-country bicycle trip from the west coast, 21-year-old Leo crashes at the Greenwich Village apartment of his feisty 91-year-old grandmother. Although these unlikely roommates are not always in harmony on issues of age, family, love, sex, and politics, they find an emotional connection that gives each a purpose. Directed by David Kennedy, the cast also includes Clay Singer, Lea DiMarchi, and Phoebe Holden. Performances run through September 4 in Westport, CT.
Company member Kathy McCafferty appears in the world premiere ofย Thirst, a witty drama from Irish-American playwright Ronรกn Noone, now playing at the Dorset Theatre Festival in Vermont. The production is directed by award-winning writer and director Theresa Rebeck.ย Thirstย is set during Eugene OโNeillโs classicย Long Dayโs Journey Into Night, during which failure, denial, and passion roil as two Irish servants and an American chauffeur pass the day in the kitchen of the Tyrone familyโs residence in 1912. As tensions rise and the past rears its head, a search for love and belonging becomes the search for โhome.โ Joining Kathy in the cast are David Mason and Meg Hennessy. Performances run through September 3.
Company members Reynaldo Piniella, Heather Alicia Simms, and Benja Kay Thomas participated in the 11th Annualย 48Hours in… Harlemย Festival, presented by the collaborative producing organization Harlem9. A twist on the traditional 24-hours play festival,ย 48Hoursย invites 6 playwrights, 6 directors, and 18 actors to envision the future with six 10-minute raw impressions of Afro-Futuristic works. Reynaldo was among this yearโs playwrights with his play Astro Black, while Heather and Benja were directors in the festival.
