21 Aug: Mark H. Dold and Max Wolkowitz in Waiting for Godot at Barrington Stage

Company members Mark H. Dold and Max Wolkowitz are appearing in Barrington Stage Companyโ€™s new production ofย Waiting for Godot.ย Mark plays Vladimir and Max plays Lucky. Directed by Joe Calarco, the pair are joined by Kevin Isola as Estragon and Christopher Innvar as Pozzo. One of the great absurdist plays of the 20th century, life is vaudeville, tragedy, philosophy,1 and confusion in Beckettโ€™s archaic world, all seamlessly woven together with the playwrightโ€™s masterful blend of poetry and humor. 20 Aug: Ethan Dubin in Limited Series, Mike, on Hulu

Company member Ethan Dubin appears in two episodes of the new limited seriesย Mike, chronicling the life of controversial heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson. Ethan plays boxing legend commentator, Teddy Atlas, and appears alongside Harvey Keitel, who plays boxing coach Cus Dโ€™Amato, and B.J.ย Minor, who plays teenaged Mike Tyson. The โ€œunauthorized and no-holds-barredโ€ series from creator/screenwriter Steven Rogers and showrunner Karin Gistย starsย Trevante Rhodes,ย examiningย class, race, fame, the power of media, misogyny, the wealth divide, the promise of the American Dream, and ultimately our own role in shaping Mike’s story. The first two episodes are available now, with new episodes every Thursday.

17 Aug: Ellen Adair and Nikkole Salter in Love and Communication

Company members Ellen Adair and Nikkole Salter appear inย Love and Communication, a new film from writer/director James Christy. Based on his 2010 play, which premiered at Passage Theatre, the film follows a young couple struggling with how to treat their son’s autism, forced to use desperate means to do what they think is best for their child. The cast includes Briana Evigan and Ryan Kennedy, alongside Lev Gorn and Ariel Shafir.ย The film is currently on the festival circuit, appearing at the New Hope Film Festival and Arizona International Film Festival.ย Watch the trailer.

15 Aug: Ato Blankson-Wood in As You Like It with Shakespeare in the Park

Company member Ato Blankson-Wood plays Orlando in The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production ofย As You Like It, a musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy by Shaina Taub and Laurie Woolery. The adaptation premiered for a five-night run in the 2017 Public Works program. It was scheduled to return for the summer season in 2020, but postponed due to the pandemic. Laurie Woolery directs a cast that includes Rebecca Naomi Jones and Darius de Haas. Similar to the Public Works production, the summer staging features two rotating ensembles of 127 New Yorkers from all five boroughs. Performances run through September 11 at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

12 Aug: Plays For Us Receives Honor Roll! Honors

Company membersย Kathryn Markeyย andย Dee Pelletier, who founded the play reading seriesย Plays for Us, have been announced as inaugural recipients of Honor Roll! Honors, a new award from the 1,700-member organization Honor Roll!, an advocacy and action group of women+ playwrights over forty, whose goal is greater inclusion in theater.ย Plays for Usย was one of four recipients, and recognized in the category of Inclusionary Festival for their work over the past three years highlighting plays that are largely written by women 40+ and featuring great roles for women in middle age and up. Withย Plays for Us, Kathryn and Dee have presented 28 evenings of work, including 44 women playwrights, since its founding in 2019.

09 Aug: Sarah Baskin in New Short Film, Minyan Duty

Company member Sarah Baskin stars in a new short film,ย Minyan Duty,ย from writer/director Ivan Kander. Hoping to say Kaddish after their motherโ€™s death, Leah and Ariel, two sisters with diametrically opposed views and personalities, find themselves one person short of making a Minyan and must wait for another person to join their evening service in this moving comedy. The film is currently screening on the festival circuit.ย Watch the trailer.

09 Aug: Brian McManamon in Grand Horizons at Peopleโ€™s Light

Company member Brian McManamon joins the cast of a new production of playwright Bess Wohlโ€™sย Grand Horizons, directed by Jackson Gay at Peopleโ€™s Light in Malvern, PA. Over a quiet dinner for two, Bill and Nancy serenely decide to divorce after fifty years of marriage. While Nancy feels liberated and Bill seems unfazed, their adult sons Brian and Ben donโ€™t exactly take it well. As the โ€œkidsโ€ descend on the Grand Horizons senior living community in an attempt to mediate, everything they thought they knew about their parents comes crashing down. The production runs through August 28, and a filmed version ofย Grand Horizonsย streams August 26 through September 9.

08 Aug: Malcolm Gets in New Short Film, North Star

Company member Malcolm Gets stars alongside Colman Domingo in a new short film,ย North Star. From writer/director P.J. Palmer, the films tells the story of a rural rancher (Domingo) and his ailing husband (Gets), struggling against poverty and isolation, who make a heartbreaking decision in order to preserve the dignity of their marriage. The film also features Audrey Wasilewski, Chris Sheffield, Laura Innes, and Kevin Bacon. The film is currently screening on the festival circuit, most recently at Outfest 2022, the LGBTQ+ Film Festival in Los Angeles.ย Watch the trailer.

07 Aug: SolFest 2022, Latinรฉ Theatre Festival, Produced by Adriana Gaviria

Company member Adriana Gaviria, a founding member of The Sol Projectโ€”a national theater initiative dedicated to amplifying Latinรฉ voices and building a body of work for the new American theaterโ€”recently produced the fifth annual SolFest: A Latinรฉ Theatre Festival, in partnership with Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater. The four-day program ran August 7-10 with both online and in-person events including two evenings of live programming at PRTT in Manhattan.ย Read more about the festival and mission.

07 Aug: Emma Ramos in New Short Film, Blessed and Highly Favored

Company member Emma Ramos stars alongside Lorena Russi inย Blessed and Highly Favoredย (โ€œBendecidas y Afortunadasโ€), which recently premiered at Outfest 2022 in Los Angeles. From writer/directors Marianne Amelinckx and Julieta Messmer, the short film is a half hour queer comedy about Millie and Hope, two spoiled latinas who come to the U.S. trying to make it in the Hollywood film industry. But when their destiniesโ€”and work visasโ€”are held hostage by immigration services, they decide to make ends meet by taking a cash-paid job on a marijuana farm in Northern California.ย Watch the trailer.
