Company members Mark Jacoby and Linda Powell appear in the pre-Broadway engagement of A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical in Boston. Will Swenson plays Neil Diamond early in his life, while Mark plays Neil Diamond in present day, and Linda plays the role of Doctor. The story comes to life on stage featuring hit songs “Sweet Caroline,” “America,” and “Cracklin’ Rosie.”
Company members Heather Alicia Simms and Sanjit De Silva appear this summer in Richard III at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, presented by The Public Theater, starring Danai Gurira in the title role. The new production, in which Heather plays Queen Elizabeth and Sanjit plays Buckingham, will kick off the 60th season of Shakespeare in the Park, with Tony nominee Robert O’Hara directing the history play named after one of Shakespeare’s most ambitious villains, as he manipulates and kills his way to the throne.
Company member John Doman plays Dog with Bucket Hat in Adult Swim & HBO Max’s original action-thriller series Birdgirl, now back for a second season. The first season focused on Judy Ken Sebben, the daughter of Phil Ken Sebben, who fights crime as Birdgirl. When Phil Ken Sebben is killed in an accident, he names Birdgirl as the successor of his law firm, Sebben & Sebben Worldwide. The second installment of the show focuses on Judy who is still finding it difficult to settle down in the corporate world department.
Company member Colby Minifie appears in Brian Watkins’ new play Epiphany at Lincoln Center Theater, directed by Tyne Rafaeli. The play follows a group of old friends gathering to resuscitate a forgotten tradition only to find themselves craving answers when the guest of honor is unusually late. Opening night is June 16, with the production slated to run through July 24.
Company member Lindsay Brill is in Kitchen Theatre Company’s production of Hurricane Diane by Madeleine George. In the suburbs of the Garden State, the Greek God Dionysus returns from the heavens in the guise of a butch gardener named Diane, who’s hell bent on reversing climate change and restoring earthly order by seducing a band of mortal followers. Directed by Rebecca Bradshaw, the cast also features Jackie Rivera, Erica Steinhagen, Cynthia Henderson, and Melissa Miller. Running through June 26.
Company member Tamilla Woodard directs Gab Reisman’s Spindle Shuttle Needle as part of Clubbed Thumb’s 2022 Summerworks. In a cottage surrounded by endless siege, at the dawn of Modern Capitalism, a motley group of women tell tales, pick nits, and stretch out the last bits of sustenance til the Market reopens. The cast includes Tina Benko, Seth Clayton, Zoë Geltman, Mia Katigbak, Florencia Lozano and Monique St. Cyr. Performances run through June 16 at The Wild Project in the East Village.
Benja Kay Thomas appears in Max Walker-Silverman’s directorial debut, A Love Song, screening at the Tribeca Festival this month. The film stars Dale Dickey and Wes Studi and premiered at Sundance in January, followed by the Berlin International Film Festival. At a campground in the rural West, a woman waits alone for an old flame from her past to arrive, uncertain of his intentions while bashful about her own. Screenings available in person or online June 13-16. Bleecker Street will release the film in July.
Company member Trish Lindström plays Ginny Potter in the newly launched Canadian production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child now playing at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto. The show by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany first premiered in the West End in 2016 before going on to open in 2018 on Broadway. A Toronto native, Trish returns to Mirvish following her Dora Award-winning performance in the Canadian production of the musical Once, also directed by John Tiffany.
Company member Maria-Christina Oliveras plays the role of Tolima, an Aztec bruja, in the latest run of Kiss My Aztec! at Hartford Stage. From comedy legend John Leguizamo and director Tony Taccone comes the irreverent new musical loosely based on 16th century Latin American history, as a group of Aztecs lead the resistance against Spanish invaders.
A new film, Aftershocks: A Tetralogy of our Times from company member Magaly Colimon-Christopher and presented by Conch Shell Productions will be screened at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning in Queens, NY on Friday, June 10th. The evening titled “Watch & Share” combines the screening with an interactive story sharing workshop led by Michelladonna & Jasmeene Francois.
