Companyย member Kenneth Lee appearsย in Classic Stageย Company‘s production ofย Snow in Midsummerย byย Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig. Directed by Zi Alikhan, the work is an adaptation of Guan Hanqing’s Chinese dramaย The Injustice to Dou Yi That Moved Heaven and Earth. Cowhig’s murder mystery follows a wealthy businesswoman who takes ownership of a factory in a remote town and subsequently learns of a curse placed on the town by an unjustly executed innocent woman.

25 May: Michael Mastro Associate Director for The Karate Kid, Pre-Broadway Engagement at Stages St. Louis

The new musical adapted from The Karate Kidโ€”the film written by Robert Mark Kamen and inspired by his original, semi-autobiographical storyโ€”premieres in St. Louis before heading to Broadway. Company member Michael Mastro is associate director for the production, working alongside director Amon Miyamoto. Music and lyrics by Drew Gasparini with the book by Kamen. John Cardoza, Jovanni Sy, Alan H. Green, and Tony nominee Kate Baldwin star. Performances run through June 26 in St. Louis.

25 May: The Courtroom with Kristin Villanueva and Linda Powell Premieres at Tribeca Festival

The new film,ย The Courtroom,ย featuringย company members Kristin Villanueva and Linda Powell premieres at the Tribeca Festival in June as part of the Tribeca Online Premieres series. The film will be screened online beginning Sunday, June 12 at 8:00 p.m. From director Lee Sunday Evans and writer Arian Moayed, adapted verbatim from court transcripts, The Courtroomย follows the harrowing journey of Elizabeth Keathley, a Filipina immigrant who mistakenly registers to vote while on a K3 visa, a crime punishable by deportation.

25 May: Keith Randolph Smith and Tiffany Villarin in โ€ฆwhat the end will be at Roundabout

Company members Keith Randolph Smith and Tiffany Villarin appear in the Off-Broadway production of โ€ฆwhat the end will be by Mansa Ra with Roundabout Theatre Company. Alongside fellow cast members Ryan Jamaal Swain, Gerald Caesar, Randy Harrison, and Emerson Brooks, the story follows three generations of men who live under one roof and grapple with their own truths of what it means to be Black and gay. Itโ€™s an exploration of pride, pain, and patience through the unflinching eyes of fathers and sons. Directed by Margot Bordelon, the production runs through July 10 at the Laura Pels Theatre.

23 May: Allison Briner-Dardenne in 1776 at A.R.T.

Companyย member Allison Briner-Dardenne plays Stephen Hopkins inย 1776ย at the American Repertory Theater, co-directed by Jeffrey L. Page andย Diane Paulus and choreographed by Page. The award-winningย musical aboutย the founding fathers on the brink of signing the Declaration of Independence receives a new production featuringย a cast comprised fully ofย female, non-binary, and trans performers. Co-presented by A.R.T. andย Roundabout Theatre, the show runs in Cambridge, MA through July 24. The production will then come to Broadway in September, and set off on a U.S. tour in February 2023.

22 May: Geneva Carr Completes Sixth and Final Season of Bull

Companyย member Geneva Carr has played Marissa Morgan on the CBS hit showย Bullย for the past six seasons. The series finale โ€œGoodbye,โ€ airs Thursday, May 26th,ย bringing Geneva’s 125 episode run to a close. Earlier this spring,ย Geneva made her TV directorial debut, helming an episode of the show โ€œWith These Hands.โ€ In the series finale,ย Bull and the team head to court one last time to finalize a negligent homicide defense that will change the nature of theirย companyย and their lives forever.

Co-produced by the Public and theย National Black Theatre, Ijames reinvents Shakespeare’sย Hamlet,ย following queer, Southern college kid, Juicy, as he grapples with identity questions, the ghost of his father, and a supernatural demand for vengeance.ย The production has extended through July 3rd.

Companyย member Maechi Aharanwa recently completed a run ofย The Misanthropeย with Moliรจre in the Park, playing the role of Cรฉlimรจne alongside Gabriel Ebert as Alceste. Directed by Lucie Tiberghien, the production was presented in partnership with LeFrak Center at Lakeside and Prospect Park Alliance with free tickets made available to the public. The cast also includes Janie Brookshire, Chris Henry Coffey, Danaya Esperanza, Margaret Ivey, Nate Miller, Kate Siahaan Rigg, and Aline Salloum.
