17 May: Marjan Neshat to Receive Special Drama Desk Award Judy Kuhn Nominated for Featured Actress

Company member Marjan Neshat was recently announced as the recipient of the 2022 Sam Norkin Off-Broadway Award from the Drama Desk Awards. Companyย member Judy Kuhn was nominated forย Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in Classic Stageย Company‘s production ofย Assassins. Eight productions featuring the work ofย companyย members were also nominated for awards including: Outstanding Play (Cullud Wattah, English,ย andย Selling Kabul); Outstanding Revival of a Play (for colored girls, Trouble in Mind,ย andย Skeleton Crew); and Outstanding Revival of a Musical (Assassins,ย andย Caroline, or Change).

11 May: Mark H. Dold in The Inheritance at Speakeasy Stage in Boston

Companyย member Mark H. Dold joins a new production of the Tony award-winning playย The Inheritance by Matthew Lรณpez and directed by Paul Daigneault, now playing at Speakeasy Stage in Boston. A generation after the peak of the AIDS crisis, what is it like to be a young gay man in New York?ย  What do we owe the future and each other? The show takes place in two parts, running concurrently through June 11.

10 May: Nathan Hinton in Chekhov + Turgenev at The Sheen Center

Company member Nathan Hinton joins the cast ofย Chekhov + Turgenev,ย two Russian classics presented in repertory and scored in jazz, Turgenevโ€™sย About Loveย and Chekhovโ€™sย Three Sisters. Both productions are adapted and directed by Will Pomerantz, and feature an original score by Nancy Harrow, performed nightly by a live jazz quartet. A limited engagement from Blueprint Productions that runs through June 10. Nathan appears in About Love, a musical play with songs, inspired by Ivan Turgenev’s novella,ย First Love.ย

09 May: Lizan Mitchell & Nikkole Salter in Kirsten Greenidgeโ€™s Our Daughters, Like Pillars

Companyย members Lizan Mitchell and Nikkole Salter are featured in The Huntington Theatreโ€™s world premiere ofย Kirsten Greenidge’sย Our Daughters, Like Pillars,ย about a whirlwind week in the life of a contemporary Black Boston family. Directed by Kimberly Senior, performances finished May 8, with digital access to a filmed performance available through May 22. Hear Greenbridge speak about the play on WBUR.ย

09 May: Marjan Neshat in Wish You Were Here at Playwrights Horizons + Feature in The New York Times

Marjan Neshat plays Nazanin in the world premiere ofย Wish You Were Here, written by Sanaz Toossi and directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch at Playwrights Horizons, on stage now through May 29. The New York Timesย also ran a Sunday arts feature:ย โ€œMarjan Neshatย on Her โ€˜Kind of Miraculous Seasonโ€™ Onstageโ€ย recognizing her performances this season in three works by playwrights of Middle Eastern descent, including Sylvia Khouryโ€™sย Selling Kabul,ย followed byย Sanaz Toossiโ€™sย Englishย and the current production ofย Wish You Were Here.

08 May: Madeline Wise in Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard

Companyย member Madeline Wise plays Jean-Luc Picardโ€™s mother, Yvette, in the second season ofย Star Trek: Picard, appearing in five episodes in flashbacks to Picardโ€™s childhood. The series stars Sir Patrick Stewart and is the follow-up series toย Star Trek: The Next Generationย (1987) andย Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). The entire second season is now available to stream onย Paramount+.

07 May: Kathleen McNenny & Dee Pelletier, Understudies in The Minutes

Dee Pelletier and Kathleen McNenny have joined the Broadway cast of Tracy Lettsโ€™ย The Minutesย as understudies.ย From the award-winning Steppenwolf Theatre,ย The Minutesย follows the inner-workings of a city council meeting in the small town of Big Cherryโ€”and the hypocrisy, greed, ambition and devious doings that ensue. The production initially played 19 preview performances in March 2020 before closing due to Covid, and is now scheduled to run through July 24.

06 May: AAPAC receives Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre

The Tony Awards Administration Committee announced that theย Asian American Performers Action Coalition (AAPAC) are recipients of 2022 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Broadway industry.ย  Companyย membersย Pun Bandhu, Cindy Cheung, Angel Desai, Julienne Hanzelka Kimย andย Kenneth Lee,ย sit on AAPACโ€™s steering committee and founded the organization in 2011.
