Company member Andrea Syglowski recently finished performing in Hartford Stage’s production ofย Lost in Yonkers. The Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by Neil Simon spotlights the power of a resilient family, following two teenage Brooklyn boys in a small apartment in Yonkers with their unwelcoming grandmother, overexcitable aunt and gangster uncle.ย Company member Patrick Mulryanย was the dialogue coach for the production.
Companyย member Cindy Cheung performs in Anchuli Felicia Kingโs new play,ย Golden Shield,ย premieringย off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club now through June 12. The legal drama follows an American lawyer Julie Chen and her class-action lawsuit involving a technology corporation and the Chinese government. Directed by May Adrales, the cast includes Fang Du, Kristen Hung, Daniel Jenkins, Michael C. Liu, Max Gordon Moore, Ruibo Qian and Gillian Saker, as well asย companyย member Ka-Ling Cheung, who is the vocal coach and an understudy in the production.
Sita Mani, Head of Movement at Columbia University’s Graduate Acting Program, and Justine Wolf Williams, Faculty at Yale School of Drama and NYU,ย will join The Actors Center’s Resident Company in May 2022, for a series of artist development workshops focused on movement, wellness, and the actor at play.
Elizabeth Van Dyke plays Fanny Johnson in Alice Childressโsย Wedding Bandย at TFANA. Set in the deep south at the end of World War I during the flu epidemic, Alice Childressโs seldom-produced masterpiece is one of American dramaโs most mercilessly revealing tales of interracial love. The play traces a devoted coupleโs caustic confrontations with anti-miscegenation laws, vicious family racism, community disapproval and finally deadly disease and their own long-buried feelings. Awoye Timpo directs the playโs first New York production since its New York premiere in 1972.
Four productions featuringย company members received nominations for the 2022 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. The Awards were distributed in a ceremony at NYU Skirball on May 1.ย Sanaz Toossiโs play Englishย (with Marjan Neshat)ย produced by Atlantic Theaterย Companyย and Roundabout Theatreย Company won the award for Outstanding Play.
Company member Lisa Rothe directs the world premiere of Another Revolution by Jacqueline Bircher at the Gulfshore Playhouse in South Naples, Florida. Set in the tumultuous year of 1968 against the backdrop of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination and the Vietnam War, two Columbia University graduate students are forced to share a lab and find they are opposed in more than just their scientific disciplines. The production runs through May 15.
Companyย member Ramsey Faragallah performs inย The Vagrant Trilogy, receiving its New York Premiere at The Public Theatre after more than ten years in the making. Playwright Mona Mansour delves into the Palestinian struggle for home and identity in this epic story told in three parts. Featuring six actors in 19 different roles, Mansourโs drama spans four decades and three generations of a family uprooted by war and politics. The production is directed by Mark Wing-Davey.
The world premiere of Karen Hartmanโsย New Golden Ageย featuresย companyย member Mahira Kakkar, alongside Carmen Castillo, Ricardy Fabre, Doug Harris, and Claire Siebers. The play about two sisters fighting for human connection in a near-future tech dystopiaย runs through June 9. Directed by Jade King Carroll and produced by Primary Stages,ย Resident Off-Broadway Theaterย Companyย at 59E59, the play appears as part of 59E59โs inauguralย VOLT festival.
