The play shines a harsh overhead light on the pores of White Gaydom, revealing what happens when throuples crumble, neighbors bicker, and rich and pretty clash with hot and dumb. Company member Jeb Brown is in Beau the Musical, with concept, book, music and lyrics by Douglas Lyons, music by Ethan D. Pakchar, and directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, now running Off-Broadway at The Distillery at St. Luke’s Theatre. The musical features eight actor-musicians telling the story of Ace Baker—a young queer man whose life is forever altered when he discovers his deceased grandfather is actually alive. Family secrets unravel as Ace rushes to make up for lost time with a man who changes his world by putting a guitar in his hand. With a rollicking original pop-country score, Beau celebrates the music we leave for the ones we love. Performances run through December 7.
Company members Fala Chen and Sarah Baskin are in the feature film Lucky Lu, written and directed by Canadian Korean filmmaker Lloyd Lee Choi. A delivery driver in New York City discovers his e-bike has been stolen. With his family en route to the U.S. after many years apart, Lu must contend with a community that has turned its back on him while he tries to replace the only thing promising to keep his family afloat. The film had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival Directors’ Fortnight, where it was nominated for the Caméra d’Or. The film is currently on the global festival circuit, appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, and upcoming at AFI Fest and the Denver Film Festival. Company member Peter Jay Fernandez is in BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, the debut feature from artist and filmmaker Kahlil Joseph. Adapted from Joseph’s seminal video art installation, the film interweaves fictional and historical characters in an immersive story that spans 247 years across land and sea. In its mix of fictional and documentary forms, the film is inspired by W.E.B. Du Bois, Marcus Garvey, Saidiya Hartman, and others thinkers, juxtaposing their ideas with archive material and images from YouTube, social media, film, television, and journalism. The film, which debuted at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and appeared last month at the New York Film Festival, will expand into a U.S. theatrical rollout in select cities on November 2.
