Company member Mel House is inย DRONE, written and directed by Andrea Assaf, presented by the Arab American National Museum at the Detroit Public Theatre. The play explores the drone as a metaphor for how we become desensitized to daily violence (domestic and global), the question of moral Injury, and the effects of remote-control warfare on the human soul. This transdisciplinary performance project integrates theatre, live music, emerging technologies, and artistic containers for public dialogue. Performances run July 31-August 3 in Detroit, MI.
Company members Delphi Harrington and Elizabeth Stahlmann are inย Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare and directed by Alastair Boag at The Theater at Woodshill. Delphi plays Hecate, the Goddess of Witchcraft, and is doubling as the Porter, while Elizabeth plays a witch. Housed on a beautiful farm in Sauquoit in Central New York, the Theater at Woodshill is dedicated to bringing Shakespeare’s works to life and reinvigorating his canon in our timeโthrough an emphasis on contextualizing the plays, direct storytelling, fostering connection to the natural world, and incorporating music. Performances run through August 2.
Company member John Cariani is inย fuzzy: a new musicalย by Will van Dyke and Jeff Talbot, directed by Ellie Heyman at Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, MA. Fuzzy is a furry little puppet who has come home to take care of his ailing mother. What begins as a reluctant reunion becomes a touching tangle of the complex ties that bind us.ย fuzzyย is a big-hearted, bittersweet comedy about stories themselvesโwhy we tell them, how we tell them, and what they mean to us. Performances run through July 27.
Company member Maulik Pancholy is in the feature filmย Nukedย from writer and director Deena Kashper, now released on all digital platforms. The film, which premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, follows a group of friends, who get together for a cannabis-infused, technology free dinner party, only to learn a bomb is headed right for them.ย Watch the trailer.

Company member James Waterston is inย Noises Off, written by Michael Frayn and directed by Gordon Greenberg at The Old Globe. The play is anย uproarious backstage comedy that pulls back the curtain on a theatre company struggling to keep its production from falling apart. Forgotten lines, misplaced props, and romantic entanglements lead to total chaos with doors slamming and sardines flying, in a whirlwind of slapstick hilarity. Maria-Christina Oliveras was in a workshop and reading ofย That Girlย with music and lyrics by Ari Afsar and book by Rehana Lew Mirza as part of the National Music Theater Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Itโs 1971 and two very different women find themselves in competition over oneโs longtime wannabe-rockstar boyfriend in a love triangle that will have major consequences for everyone. Thirty years later, their estranged daughtersโhalf-sisters Minnow and Sairaโreunite to solve the mystery behind their fatherโs breakthrough hit in this uplifting pop-rock comedy about love, loss, and legacy.
Company member Nathan Darrow is in the short filmย Braising,ย written and directed by Bryan Ribeiro. A young black fast-food cook with dreams of becoming a chef is drawn into a strange organization led by a magnetic figure, as he struggles to forge a deeper bond with his distant, grieving father. The short film has screened at numerous festivals over the past yearโincluding Big Apple Film Festival, Peekskill Film Festival, Nyack International Film Festival, New York Shorts International Film Festival, among others. It will be part of the Chain Film Festival on August 15 and is currently available to view online as part of Lift Off Global Network.ย Watch the trailer.
Company member Lou Liberatore played Pablo Picasso inย Listen to Me, written by Gertrude Stein, directed by David Kaplan, and choreographed by Patricia Norcia at the Sibiu International Theater Festival in Romania in late June. The production starred Kathleen Turner as Gertrude Stein. In 1936, Stein returns to her apartment in Paris. Sitting alongside her companion Alice Toklas, she looks at the Picasso paintings of circus performers on her walls and has an idea to write a play. โListen to Me,โ she says to Alice, who transcribes Steinโs vision.ย Listen to Meย is an alternative history of the last century through an exceptional revisiting of some of the greatest minds of modern art.
