The production also stars Hugh Jackman and Marianna Gailus. A tree surgeon falls in love. A young woman searches for her lost friend on the prairie. A new mother is consumed by an unlikely celebrity friendship. In three monologues, unrelated individuals find their smallest choices ripple into seismic changes that connect them across centuries and continents. Performances run through June 8.

14 May: Crystal Dickinson in Purpose at La Jolla Playhouse

Company member Crystal Dickinson is in Purpose, written by Brandon Jacob Jenkins and directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg, at La Jolla Playhouse. For decades, the influential Jasper family of Chicago has been a pillar of Black American Politics: civil rights leaders, celebrity pastors and congressmen. When the youngest son Nazareth returns home with an uninvited friend in tow, the family is forced to reckon with decades of secrets and unresolved tensions that threaten to topple their empire. Performances run through June 7 in La Jolla, CA.

13 May: Jeff Hiller in Celebrity Autobiography on Broadway

Company member Jeff Hiller is in Celebrity Autobiography, presented at the Shubert Theatre on Broadway. The comedy show features a constantly-expanding rotating cast of todayโ€™s celebrities from TV, film and stage, sports, and, yes, even politics, acting out OTHER celebritiesโ€™ unintentionally hilarious autobiographies. In addition to solo excerpts, the show combines passages from various autobiographies to create unforgettable ensemble โ€œmash-upsโ€ that ping-pong into โ€œhe said, she saidโ€ scenarios, famous love triangles, and wildly different takes on the same experience. Most stars appear for a week or two at a time, some just for a night or two, and surprise guests can be expected to pop in from time to time.ย Jeff’s performances run May 20-23.

Company members Mahira Kakkar, Eva Kaminsky, and Patrick Kerr are in Thornton Wilder’s The Emporium, completed by Kirk Lynn and directed by Rob Melrose, presented by Classic Stage Company. More than 75 years in the making, an unfinished work by one of Americaโ€™s greatest dramatists takes the New York stage at last. Thornton Wilderโ€™s The Emporiumย unveils the artistโ€™s final play, brought to life through playwright Kirk Lynnโ€™s completion. As a young man journeys through the city and beyond, heย encountersย a world of wonder, meaning, and the elusive truths of life itself. Wilderโ€™s long-unseen masterpiece is finally ready to be discovered, offering the chance to experience a new work from a legendary voice. Performances run through June 7.

As the world around them transforms, they find unexpected solace, love, and companionship. Purlie is home on a missionโ€”to buy back his fatherโ€™s church and liberate the sharecroppers he grew up with from the brutal segregationist who still runs their plantation. The story features a madcap plot, survival techniques forged in the Jim Crow South, and satiric targets that feel as urgent as they did when the play premiered in 1961. Company members Irene Sofia Lucio and Reynaldo Piniella are in Titans, written byย Jesse Jae Hoon and directed byย Tara Elliott, presented as part of Clubbed Thumb’s Summerworks. The ordinary residents of an overrun American city answer the Signal and discover their extraordinary powers. Unfortunately, they must be brave. Performances run May 14-26 at The Wild Project.

07 May: David Dean Bottrell in Feature Film Shackled

Company member David Dean Bottrell is in the feature film Shackled, from director Luke Spears. A white-collar criminal is tethered to a sociopathic gangster with terminal cancer. Both men carry explosive charges surgically implanted in their hearts. If either falters, both die. Shackled is a lean, heart-pounding thriller where freedom is a shared sentence, and trust is the most dangerous gamble of all. The film will have its world premiere at the London International Science Fiction Film Festival on May 16. Watch trailer here.
