Born in El Paso, TX, Carey Cox received a BFA in Musical Theatre from Santa Fe University of Art and Design, followed by an MFA in Acting from UNC Chapel Hill.ย ย During her time at UNC, Carey performed as a company member in ten productions at PlayMakers Repertory Company.ย ย She movedย toย New York City in 2016 and dueย toย symptoms of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, she began using mobility aids and transitionedย toย auditioning as a disabled actor.ย ย In 2017 she understudiedย theย role of Laura inย theย Broadway revival ofย Theย Glass Menagerieย starring Sally Field.ย ย In 2019, Carey played Laura inย Theย Glass Menagerieย atย theย Guthrie Theatre directed by Joseph Haj.ย ย Carey has also performed in productions at Syracuse University, Nashville Childrenโ€™s Theatre, and starred inย Barefoot inย theย Parkย at Queens Theatre.ย ย She is also a playwright and has had work featured at Queens Theatre, Lincolnย Center, andย theย Bird Festival in Tokyo, Japan.ย ย Carey currently plays Rose Blaine on Huluโ€™sย Theย Handmaidโ€™s Tale, and earlier this year she wrote and performed inย theย 2022 Viacom CBS Diversity Showcase.ย ย Carey also sings, plays guitar, performed standup comedy for six years, is a trained visual artist, and enjoys advocacy and volunteer work, including serving onย theย volunteer board of NYC nonprofit Born Dancing.ย ย She lives in New York City with her fiancรฉ Joe Kibler, three beloved cats, and an adorable dog.
