In this generative playwriting workshop, we’ll find inspiration in the impossibility and phenomenon of human language—how deviance, wrongness, and playfulness with words as well as systems of logic can open us up to a whole new way of conceiving plays. This workshop will encourage writers to consider their authentic play-language, to hone into their poetics, and follow your wildest language impulses. We will read some strange and profound texts together that break all the rules, generate a bunch of writing inside and outside of our time together through tailored prompts, and then share our work with each other for beloved feedback and deep reflection. By mid-workshop, Haruna will ask you to follow through on one of your language impulses towards developing the seeds of a new play. Sessions run weekly, 2-5pm.
