Company CoLabs Community Space Tuesday Mornings Dates & Times Every Tuesday – 11:00am-12:30pm ET Launch Zoom Link Meeting ID: 837 0411 7798 Passcode: 374737 Hosted by Jodie Lynne McClintock About the CoLab Started three years ago at the height of the Covid-19 lockdown as a way to connect, it has continued weekly as a family of actors navigating the changing landscape of our times. Here you will find a supportive, safe virtual space where artists in our company bring their stories, concerns, questions, recommendations, and inspirations in a free-wheeling but facilitated discussion. With no set agenda, we delve into whatever is of interest or concern in any given week. We explore what it means to be an actor and what place our art holds in the world. People suggest balm for body and soul while walking hand-in-hand along the actor’s way. About the Series Company CoLabs are a series at The Actors Center that offer a framework for collaborative explorations and community programming among company members. Company members host or facilitate projects—play reading groups, explorations of new material or approaches, writing labs, devising work, field trips, retreats—in short, anything inspiring to explore among peers. CoLabs offer creative outlets to explore work you might not otherwise have the opportunity for, while continuing to share resources and deepen connections among our Actors Center community. In this generative playwriting workshop, we’ll find inspiration in the impossibility and phenomenon of human language—how deviance, wrongness, and playfulness with words as well as systems of logic can open us up to a whole new way of conceiving plays. This workshop will encourage writers to consider their authentic play-language, to hone into their poetics, and follow your wildest language impulses. We will read some strange and profound texts together that break all the rules, generate a bunch of writing inside and outside of our time together through tailored prompts, and then share our work with each other for beloved feedback and deep reflection. By mid-workshop, Haruna will ask you to follow through on one of your language impulses towards developing the seeds of a new play. Sessions run weekly, 2-5pm. About Haruna Lee Haruna Lee is a Taiwanese-Japanese-American experimental playwright and performance artist, educator, screenwriter and community steward based in Brooklyn, NY. Their plays are often an urge to honor their mother’s broken English, to translate experiences despite the gulf of cultures, to know their own psychic blood and guts, and to give up on words entirely and commune through epic imagery and ritual. Plays include War Lesbian, Memory Retrograde, Suicide Forest, 49 Days, and DADBOT. Lee is a recipient of the 2026 Guggenheim Fellowship, a 2026 Creative Capital Award, a 2025 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize Finalist receiving a Special Commendation, a 2021 Steinberg Playwright Award, a 2021 FCA Grants to Artists Award, and a 2020 Obie Award for Playwriting. Their writing has been published by Broadway Licensing, Yale’s Theater Magazine, Table Work Press, and 53rd State Press. As a performer and collaborator, they’ve worked alongside Lynn Nottage, Aya... |

Tai Chi is often recognized by its slow, flowing movements, but beneath the movement lies a deeper practice: learning to listen to the body, quiet the mind, and become more aware of how energy, intention, and attention shape the way we move and experience ourselves. We will approach Tai Chi not simply as a movement practice, but as an exploration of the relationship between body and mind. Through standing, breathing, weight shifting, fundamental Tai Chi movements, and partner exercises, participants will explore relaxation without collapse, stillness within movement, balance and grounding, and the subtle ways in which intention can organize the entire body. Rather than asking, “How does my movement look?” we will gradually learn to ask, “What do I actually feel?” As awareness deepens, the body itself becomes a source of information. We begin to notice unnecessary tension, shifts in balance, internal sensations, and our instinctive responses to another person’s presence and energy. No previous Tai Chi or martial arts experience is necessary. Each session will build progressively while leaving space for curiosity, personal discovery, and individual experience. While the seven sessions are designed to build progressively, each session also stands on its own, so participants are welcome to join at any point in the series and will be able to follow the class without having attended previous sessions. <p data-pm-slice="1 1 About Raymond Lee Raymond Lee (Tai Chi Ray) is a New York City–based Tai Chi instructor and founder of Manhattan Tai Chi. He began practicing martial arts at age seven and grew up in a family with a five-generation tradition in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ray approaches Tai Chi not simply as a martial art or form of exercise, but as an ongoing exploration of the relationship between body and mind. His teaching invites students to slow down, turn their attention inward, and explore how relaxation, awareness, energy, and... |
