Cotter Smith and Joshua David Robinson in Residence This October

Actor and educator Cotter Smith and voice & dialect coach and actor Joshua David Robinson will join The Actors Center Resident Company this October for workshops on Active Analysis and Miller Voice Method.

Cotter Smith has spent the majority of his professional life in New York and Los Angeles, appearing in plays on and off Broadway and in many television series and films over the years. His screen credits range from his debut as Robert Kennedy in the miniseries Blood Feud and the early days of Hill Street Blues to his more recent roles on Mindhunter and The Americans. He has been an acting teacher for over thirty years, at numerous theaters and training programs around the country and in New York at the Stella Adler Studio and the New School for Drama, where he also served as the Department Head of the MFA Acting Program. He is currently near completion of his book Beyond Words: Stanislavsky’s Active Analysis, a practical handbook for directors, actors and teachers.

Voice and dialect coach, educator, and company member Joshua David Robinson joins The Actors Center for the first time to facilitate a workshop on the Miller Voice Method (mVm). mVm focuses on breath as the basis of active presence and vocal musicality, strength, health, and flexibility. Integration with a speaker’s or actor’s performance requirements is an essential component to the work. In these sessions participants will be introduced to some of the core principals and practices of mVm and then get into the laboratory to test them out on monologue, scene, and on camera work as time permits. No previous experience with the work is needed, only a piece of text that you know well. Sessions run Thursday mornings, 10am-1pm.
